Plus Size Canadian Outfit - OOTD or What I'm Wearing...

So I wore this one to teach (the last day of classes this term - I'm going to miss my students so much!). It was a bit dreary out today, so I thought I would wear some colorful floral to brighten things up a bit! I saw a gorgeous red dress on the Marks and Spencer's website - but I must not buy it... Self imposed shopping ban! I definitely recommend you all buy it though, and send me pictures when you do! I also just found a great new website called Alloy that sells plus sizes. It's also pretty awesome, but the shipping is like $22, so that's a bit of a deterrent. I've added it to the list of web stores that ship to Canada on the right sidebar. Here are some photos of today's outfit. Hope you like it!

New Plus Size Canadian OOTD (Outfit of the Day) - What I'm Wearing

Hey Everyone!

So I wore this outfit to school for teaching and to do some studying at a nearby coffee shop. It was a really comfortable outfit, and perfect for the occasion! I love the arm warmers with the cape because it means I can wear short sleeves underneath and my arms won't freeze. I've been noticing people reacting differently to me since I've upped my style. Mostly I get really positive reactions; people will smile at me more often or engage me in conversation. Sometimes I'll feel like someone is looking at me and I'll look up and they are! But today I had a really bad experience. There were these two really nasty girls in the hallway (wearing what can only be described as a very small step up from pajamas) and they were talking about me really loudly. One said "Look, look, look, oh my god." The other one: "I know, look at that, she's trying way too hard, like get over yourself!" I gave them a really mean look and just kept walking. Now that it's over, I kind of wish I had said something. They were so rude, and why should I "get over myself"? I've been "over myself" for my whole life, and that hasn't really worked for me... I finally feel good about myself, and now people are telling me to get over myself?! In fact I'm trying to get over being over myself! I don't really care what other people think. Especially haters. I think that those girls probably have their own insecurities, so I am not going to take what they said to heart. I feel great and I am going to continue to dress well regardless. I wonder if they would have said the same things if I'd been skinny though... Anyways, without any further ado, here is my outfit. I hope you like it. Please let me know what you think! I'd love some positive energy to counteract the negative!

Simply Be in Canada?

Hey Everyone,

There's an online shop that has a ton of great stuff - it's called Simply Be and they are based out of the UK. The only problem with them is that they DON"T SHIP TO CANADA! Grrr! I would love to be able to send them an email or a copy of this page showing all of your support for getting them to begin to ship here. If we get enough support, maybe we can convince them. Some of the stuff is really beautiful and the prices are fairly reasonable. It shouldn't be too difficult for them to ship to Canada because they're already shipping to the US. We're always left out. Double grrrrr! So if you would support Simply Be (and shop at their online store if they shipped here), please post your name and city in the comments (like a petition) and if we get enough posts, I'll send this their way. Power to all you curvy Canadians out there! Let's have our voices heard!

Another New Outfit

This is another new outfit I wore this week to teach. It's a bit more casual than some of the other ones I've put up here, so I was sort of reluctant to put this one up, but what do you all think? Would you like me to continue posting outfits like these, or do you prefer my more fancy/unique outfits? I really like to have your feedback, so please leave me comments! I love to hear from you all so much!

Young, Fat, & Fabulous: Danielle's Closet

What would you guys think about me doing something like this? Gabi visits the closet of stylish fatshionistas in her area. I was also thinking about maybe featuring a reader a month in like 6 of their favourite outfits. This is also something Gabi has done in the past, and I've loved it! I don't want to copy everything great she's doing, but I love these ideas! I was even thinking about doing a street style article where I stop someone who's looking really stylish, take a picture and find out where all of their stuff is from. I haven't mustered up the courage yet, lol!

Retro Thrifted Plus Size Glory!!! What I'm Wearing (or OOTD)

Hey Everyone,

Check out the new list of online stores that sell plus size clothing on the right sidebar! These are some online stores that are pretty great and that ship to Canada. If you have any suggestions for other fashionable stores you'd like me to add to the list, comment and I'll check them out!

As promised, in this post I will be featuring a plus size top I got from the Canadian thrift store Value Village. I want to apologize in advance for the number of times I am going to be using the words "Canadian" and "plus size" in this post. This blog currently appears on page 16 of a google search under those terms, so I'm trying to get the google bots to notice us so we can build an even bigger, more influential community here. On that note, Canadian, Canadian, Canadian. Plus size, plus size, plus size! There, that should help! When I went to Value Village... in Canada... I found this awesome pink plus size top. LOL. The bf thought I was crazy for liking it, but it's totally awesome genuine 80s vintage. I typically never shop at vintage stores because I feel like it's kind of lazy of me when I can go to a thrift store and look for WAY cheaper vintage items there... I got this shirt for $2.99! I was looking at ebay Canada's site for plus size items of the same label (Yves Venet) and items like it are being sold anywhere from $50-$100! I got a good deal! I also found a seventies style top, but I haven't figured out how I want to style it yet. I tried it with jeans, but since it's got long sleeves, I feel a bit too covered up. Maybe it would work better with a plus size skirt (I really am sorry for this, I know, it's a travesty). I wore this outfit to teach in and I felt wonderful in it. My style for this outfit (and this entire blog, actually) was somewhat inspired by Gabi from Young Fat and Fabulous. She's always rocking such awesome bright colours and killer skirts. The sleeves are probably my favourite part. In hindsight, though, I probably should have worn some heels with this... Canadian Plus Size. Canadian Plus Size. Canadian Plus Size.

So anyways, here's the outfit - I hope you like it. This was before all the snow in Toronto, obviously. Yuck. Springtime snow sucks.

I hope you like this Canadian girl in a plus size outfit! Honestly, though, I would love to hear what all of you think, and if you have any suggestions for online stores that ship fashionable plus size stuff to Canada. And thanks for putting up with all my "Canadian" and "plus size" references, lol!

UPDATE: I just checked google, and we're now up to page 4! Woohoo! I think it's working...!

A Lazy Sunday Afternoon Outfit... What I'm Wearing

Hey Everyone!

I wore this outfit on Sunday for a bit of thrifting. I went to Goodwill and Value Village (where I got an amazing top for $2.99 that you'll see in my next post), and then the bf and I went to get a really good cupcake at Swirls in Etobicoke! Yum, red velvet! That was sort of a reward for the bf after putting up with all my browsing in the second-hand stores, which he's not the biggest fan of. I love how comfortable this outfit is. It's perfect for a lazy day like this one. I also love that the weather is getting warmer, which means more pictures outside! Navy is my favourite colour, which you can definitely see in this outfit, and probably throughout the blog! The bf took these shots in our backyard...

An Evening at the Theatre... (What I'm Wearing/OOTD)

Hey Everyone,

I got free tickets for this past Saturday to see a play by my school's drama department because I work as an instructor in the department. It was called "An Experiment with an Air Pump." I didn't know what it was about going into it, so I had no idea what to expect, but it actually turned out to be pretty awesome. It explores the roles of science and ethics in our society, as well as shifting gender roles. All the action takes place in the same house, but 200 years apart. One story line is set in 1799 (people are concerned about the ethics of dissecting dead human bodies to gain medical knowledge), whereas the other is in 1999 (people are concerned about the ethics of stem-cell research). I dragged the bf along with me (as I did last weekend for another play [from the 1500s], which he thoroughly hated). Luckily, he enjoyed this one more! I decided to wear a nice outfit and, after much begging, he took some pictures for me (he was embarrased that people were seeing him photograph my feet). Anyways, here's the outfit. Hope you like it!

Cape - ASOS Curve/Dress/Belt - Dorothy Perkins/Necklace - Tiffany's (a gift from my sister)/Purse - CBX (Costa Blanca Accessories/Shoes - Torrid

What do you all think of this outfit? I had one girl compliment me and tell me she loved my dress! That sort of stuff makes my day. Thanks for reading, and stay tuned for a new outfit very soon (maybe tomorrow or Wednesday).

PS - I went to Value Village this weekend and got a couple of things for a really good bargain. Look for them in the near future. I am also thinking about doing a vlog about thrifting. Would any of you guys be interested in that? I'd love to hear your feedback!
